Valle de Guadelupe

Dinner at Fauna with Tom and Timmy

View of the vineyards at Bruma from our room

We decided to spend a weekend in Mexico in the Valle de Guadeloupe. We invited Tom and Timmy to join us. I have never driven in Mexico City and I was a little nervous before we went. It turns out we are not supposed to take our leased Tesla into Mexico, but I did it anyway. I did buy Mexico Insurance because our car insurance isn't valid in Mexico.

The Valle De Guadeloupe is Mexico's wine growing area, sort of like Napa Valley, with resorts and wineries. One difference sadly, is that you can only bring one bottle of wine per person into California from Mexico. If we found a wine we like we would probably want to buy a case.

We were advised to cross the border at Tacate about an hour east of San Diego. So we drove to San Diego and turned left heading for Tacate. It was lightly raining but the Tesla drove on autopilot all the way with very little human intervention. I had an additional worry about charging the Tesla in Mexico, but the resort we were staying at assured me they had a charger. To be on the safe side we stopped just before heading across at Tacate and had a coffee while we charged up the Tesla and a giant charging station in the bottom of a large parking garage. The Tesla directs you to charging stations nearby.

The advise to cross at Tacate was correct. Tacate is a sleepy Mexican village with very little traffic. We sailed right through and I was driving in Mexico. Valle de Guadeloupe is about an hour drive south of the border. I worried about the road, for no reason, it was wide and a beautiful drive in the rain and drizzle through the mountains descending eventually into the Valle.

We arrived at our lodging: the winery and resort: Bruma. We turned off the nice highway and drove up a very poorly maintained drive to the resort. Once we arrived it was very nice and modern. They led us to our rooms and we explored the property (but for some reason in our entire stay we missed the winery) which is architecturally supposed to be beautiful. Well there is always the next time. We were advised to  simply leave our car and not drive anywhere, just hire a driver. We did and he was excellent. His name is: Julio and his number is: ‭+52 984 215 3344‬. We definitely recommend him.

The first night we ate at Fauna located on the property. It was excellent!

It was a great day of travel and settling into our room.
